And you're right; that finale gave us what amounted to a canon admission that Cas is in love with Dean. I should be more than satisfied.
Personally, I don't want Cas to save Dean on his own, nothing like that - but I would like it to be a joint effort. And to my way of thinking, that would work well in terms of the story. There are two problems that will need to be fixed:
1) Dean needs to be turned human again. Sam will have to be the one to do that because Sam is human, and it WILL need to be his blood, and that IS incredibly beautiful.
But there's the second problem, too...
2) Will Dean's body need to be healed once his soul is restored? That's (possibly) where Cas's help would come in.
And to me, the idea of both Sam and Cas potentially giving their very lives to save Dean is INCREDIBLY beautiful. It's about time someone did that to save HIM for a change. *wipes tears from her eyes*
