Dancing With the Stars, watch out!

Wendy and I had our first wedding ballroom dance class last night.

We learned some basic foxtrot, east coast swing, and waltz. It was kind
of daunting being the terrible dancing lesbians that you knew everyone was
looking at. There were some older men there with their wives that did nothing
but smirk at us the whole time. I almost never have something like that get
to me, but I guess I was just SO out of my box. Once we started dancing
it was full concentration and alot of laughing, it was kind of fun...I mean
we've NEVER danced together.

Turns out that our wedding song we chose is just perfect tempo for an
American waltz, so waltzing it is. Next week we'll be broken down into
groups depending on what dance we are doing so there will just be a couple
of us. Let the choreography begin!

A.A. Bondy "Of the Sea".....there is someone to thank on lj for this song, I'm just not sure who!

Thank you for your positivity! I hope it rubs off on Wendy, we hadn't even taken a step yet and she was like "I can't do this".

My thighs burn, it was quite a workout.

Boo on the people giving you looks, but I'm really glad once you got to dancing you both really loved it <3

Hee! <3 I'm glad you guys managed to have fun with it. Are you doing any swing dancing at your wedding in general? I always thought that would be fun! /says something who never dances

lol... you know swing dancing was my favorite part last night but Wendy isn't so much with feeling the beat, so mostly I just did alot of getting twirled around. Maybe I can find a song that she can kinda get into? I'm trying, I'm downloading music today.

God I hate that feeling. I make a concerted effort not to end up in situations where me and a friend or me and a girlfriend are the only lesbians, but it happens, and people are assholes.

Dance class sounds fun, though!

I almost NEVER feel that way, I guess because we've always been a family and not a couple and we're parents first before anything else. We're kind of in a bubble that way, but this was MOST DEFINITELY a couple's thing and you could just feel the eyes. We did look at each other and say, "why did we not make our friends come do this with us?"

whatevs.

No worries if you don't want to answer this, but did you never feel like that before you guys were together? Like, it feels that way super often for me. Last year me and friends got kicked out of a pool for being too gay (like, hair etc, not even holding hands or something), for instance, which was an extreme case but it always sort of feels like that sort of thing could happen?

yay...got,it! We've been together for 18yrs, like since we were in college and 22, so I feel like we were both really sheltered in that way, even in college when I was out I had such a large circle of friends. God, I'm the worst lesbian ever when it comes to this stuff. I really hardly ever think about it, I just never had that feeling like I was different, and my sexuality is pretty fluid, I dated boys in HS, I just never felt an emotional connection with them. I saved all my boy love for Dean Winchester, lol...I have plenty of gay friends to remind me of all the injustices in the world, trust me...and I feel REALLY REALLY privileged and lucky to have just had really open friends and accepting families. And Maine is funny in that it's a young progressive left meets the older generation that really just wants to stay out of your business.

I wish that everyone had the same experience that I've had. I'm sorry that that's not the case for you. When I was younger I used to get A TON of grief for having my nose pierced tho, back in 1989 it was a pretty big deal LOL...yeah, not the same.

[identity profile] glovered.livejournal.com 2013-02-07 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I didn't mean to go all woe-is-me all over your journal, haha. And I'm glad you rarely think about that sort of thing, that means you're like, stable and shit.

I can't imagine the reaction to your nose piercing in the 80s, I had a weird enough reaction to a lip piercing in the 2000s, so.

that means you're like, stable and shit......is that the same thing as delusional? THAT....I most definitely am. LOL.

I don't mind discussing stuff like this, I mean I just live my life and hope that that's enough. AND GO US!!! we're piercing trendsetters:)

Be so glad you took the classes, because my hubby and I watched one Youtube video pre-wedding. When the big moment came he forgot he had to start, and the guests got a fine old laugh after hearing me say, "You have to lead."

At which point we just swayed in place for three minutes. I still love that moment, but there was more blushing than originally intended...

So Youtube is NOT a replacement for dance class, noted...lol. If we could sway side to side effectively (which I realized we couldn't), I wouldn't have pressed for this class. I thought we at least had the 8th grade school dance ability, nah.

It sounds like a very sweet memory for you :) How long have you been married?

[identity profile] dimeliora.livejournal.com 2013-02-07 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Youtube is good for so many thing, but not dance instructions. Although a case could be made that we only watched the video once...

One year this St. Patrick's Day. :)
